When and where was this mix recorded ?
I recorded it in late october 2014 in my bedroom which is located in Lausanne, Switzerland.
How will you describe it to us?
It’s basically a mix of different things that I feel right now. Some new rap tunes, some beats and some old tracks that I used as interludes. I tried to add a lot of swiss artists because I truly believe that the beatmaking scene is amazing for such a small country. Especially in the french speaking part of Switzerland.
Tell us a bit more about life in the alps (besides winter and sports) Cheese, chocolate, banks, watches… and beats Any particular Swiss beatmakers/producers we should watch out for besides “CHIEF” ?
Sebb Bash is definitely the man to watch out for. In my opinion he’s probably the most underrated producer in Europe even though he has worked with cats like Jadakiss, Tony Yayo, Alchemist, Big Noyd, Prodigy or the late Big L to name a few. He’s the most creative and talented guy I know. He’s been doing beats in his basement for ages and most of the time, we are only a few chosen ones to be granted the privilege of listening to them. When I started recording this Electrocaine podcast, I asked him for an exclusive beat that I could use. He sent me not one but 67 tracks and told me “it’s too hard to choose, do it yourself”. Beside him, you can follow the beatmakers that I played in my mix: Chief, Deheb (even if he’s french), Fleo, Shady, FlexFab, Hook (who co-produced Muthoni’s track) and of course my brother GR! It’s a tough question, there are so many. I would say “Uptown · Dope On Plastic” which was released in 1989 on Tommy Boy records. That’s one of my favorite rap track of all time. It has never been released on an album and the original 12-inch is hard to find. I think that’s probably the one record I would never sell. The record that never leaves my DJ bag (by the time I was still using DJ bags) could be Ante Up by M.O.P. I know that’s an easy choice, but that’s the kind of records you can play anywhere in front of any crowd. Definitely a lifesaver when you’re sweating behind your turntables. And also, I was a huge M.O.P. fan when I was younger so this answer makes sense. Any quote to live by I’m too old for this shit… but still loving it
